At the end of a wedding celebration, eight characters remain. They are the remnants, who spontaneously form a family – people who, in all their fragility, look after one another, or at least try to. We enter a kind of portrait gallery, where we discover a story within each of them. Snapshots that also reflect the present moment: the impact that increasingly authoritarian forms of government have on our psychological state. What is reality, and who in society defines it? Through these eight characters and what moves them – quite literally their physical movement – a struggle for a dignified life for everyone unfolds.
The new production by interdisciplinary artist Gisèle Vienne combines choreography and theatre, and results from a long-term investigation into power relations and how they are constructed. For the first time, Gisèle Vienne collaborates with award-winning writer Marie NDiaye, whose writing intertwines psychological observation with dreamlike elements.
