Nicolas Boudier is a visual artist, lighting and set designer, stage director and photographer whose work spans theatre, immersive arts and digital arts. He creates hybrid installations and performances that combine light, sound, video, technological innovation, robotics and virtual imagery. In his work, he develops a dramaturgy in which content and form continuously shape one another, redefining the relationship between stage and audience. His practice extends across theatre, dance, installation and museography.
Since graduating from ENSATT and GRIM in lighting design in 1992, he has created or contributed to over 160 productions, collaborating with artists including Gisèle Vienne, Joris Mathieu, Lia Rodrigues, David Wampach, Yuval Pick, Pina Bausch and Ushio Amagatsu. From 2015 to 2025, he was a resident artist at the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération in Lyon, leading research and development for artistic projects.
In the 2026/27 season, he designs the lighting for the production of ARCHIVES OF FEELINGS.
