Matthias Seier (Dramaturgy), born in Münsterland, studied cultural and literary studies as well as sociology in Dortmund and Athens. From 2014 he worked as a dramaturgy assistant and from 2018 to 2020 as a permanent dramaturg at Schauspiel Dortmund. Since 2020, he has been a dramaturg at the Volkstheater Wien. He has collaborated with directors such as Kay Voges, Claudia Bauer, Calle Fuhr, Leonie Böhm, Alexander Giesche, Mechthild Harnischmacher, and Olivia Axel Scheucher. Additional dramaturgical and writing work includes projects at Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Volksbühne Berlin.
The productions he worked on — DAS INTERNAT (directed by Ersan Mondtag, 2018) and humanistäa! based on Ernst Jandl (directed by Claudia Bauer, 2022) — were both invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. In the critics’ survey by the theatre journal Theater heute, his dramaturgy for humanistäa! received five mentions and was voted Best Dramaturgy of the 2021/22 season.
