Gottfried Breitfuss

Gottfried Breitfuss, born in 1958 in Maishofen, Austria, studied acting at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum Salzburg. He played at the Residenztheater Munich, the Schiller Theater Berlin, the Freie Volksbühne Berlin and the Theater Basel. From 1993 to 2005, he was in the ensemble of the Staatstheater Stuttgart, where he played many leading roles and staged several productions himself. Gottfried Breitfuss has been an ensemble member at the Schauspielhaus Zürich since July 2005, where he has appeared in such plays as The Idiot, Anfang des Romans (directed by Alvis Hermanis), Here and Now (directed by Jürgen Gosch), The Threepenny Opera (directed by Niklaus Helbling), and Kieślowskiä’s Die zehn Gebote (directed by Karin Henkel). He also could be seen as Yvonne for many years in Barbara Frey’s production of Gombrowicz’s Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy. He has worked on an ongoing basis with directors Frank Castorf, Christoph Marthaler, Karin Henkel, and Jan Bosse.
