The Schauspielhaus is looking for Black children between the ages of 8 and 12 for a theatre project.
Feel free to apply by 22 August 2025!

MONSTER by Anta Helena Recke, Anna Froelicher and Maxi Menja Lehmann

THIS IS WHAT IT'S ABOUT

In our dreams, we can fly, we can be very big or very small, we can climb the walls like a spider or eat a cake forever that isn't really a cake at all. Sometimes dreams also haunt us, then they are nightmares. Many people have similar dreams, for example they dream about being born or about their own mother.
MONSTER is about the relationship between mother and child and about childhood. The time when we get to know the world as it is explained to us by adults.
It is also about what can be scary. Shadows, a group of people who look exactly the same or when you want to scream and no sound comes out.
We create living images on stage.

HOW WE MAKE THEATER TOGETHER WITH YOU

The three directors Anta, Maxi and Anna will run several workshops with you. In the workshops, you will get to know the other children who will be on stage with you. You will find out what you can do on stage. The directors come up with scenes for the children.
These are mainly scenes from everyday life and scenes from dreams. You dress up, speak simple texts and move in slow motion like in a dream.
You don't need any acting experience to take part. The most important thing is that you are curious and want to get to know theater together with other children!

WHO WE ARE

We are a team of theater professionals from Germany (Berlin) and Switzerland (Zurich). We include a set designer, a costume designer, a musician, a choreographer and three directors.
We find exciting in theatre: transferring images from films and art to the stage, creating a mystical atmosphere, actors who play themselves a little. We often do plays together with children or adults who are not professional actors. In our plays there is little speaking and a lot of moving. We look forward to seeing you!

WHAT, HOW, WHERE

  • The selection workshops will take place on August 29 & 30 and September 5 & 6, 2025 in Zurich (Friday/Saturday)
  • The rehearsals will take place in the following blocks: September 17-21, 2025, October 1-4, 2025, February 9-28, 2026 and March 16-April 11, 2026
  • It is planned to perform approx. 15-20 performances by the end of the season, with the option of a return of the show in season 26/27.
  • Rehearsals are paid at a flat rate (fee of an extra)
  • There is a fee per performance (fee of an extra)
  • Rehearsals for the play take place largely outside of school hours, e.g. on evenings, free afternoons or weekend days. Intensive rehearsals will take place during the 2026 sports vacations. We will draw up a detailed rehearsal schedule after casting. In this way, we aim to accommodate the timetables of all child actors as far as possible. If school times are affected, we will discuss this in advance with the actors' school administrators.
