Adam Kaplan (b. 1987 Jerusalem) is an artist and filmmaker living between Berlin and Paris. He has presented his work at various exhibitions and festivals, including IDFA, Berlinale Forum Expanded, Frames Of Representation - ICA London, Anthology Film Archives (New York), CCA Tel Aviv, Salt Galata (Istanbul), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) and CPH:DOX (Copenhagen). Kaplan obtained a Bachelor of Fine Art at The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem, was a guest student in Hito Steyerl’s class at UDK Berlin, as well as a resident at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains.
Working mostly within video and installation, Kaplan’s works trace the ways contemporary aesthetics decay into nostalgic relics. His practice humorously plays with the fuzzy edge of our present moment, resulting in images that often look as if they have waited in storage for 20 or 30 years after their prime, coming out to light with insights and foresights about melancholic nostalgia.
