Claudia Bossard studied literature and theater studies at the University of Bern. After working as an assistant director at the Konzert Theater Bern and the Schauspielhaus Graz, she realized a highly acclaimed adaptation of Roberto Bolaño's novel 2666 at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in 2018 and staged Das Werk by Elfriede Jelinek at the Kosmos Theater Vienna in 2019. This work was continued with In den Alpen / Après les Alpesby Elfriede Jelinek / Fiston Mwanza Mujila at the Volkstheater Wien. In 2020, she was nominated for the Nestroy Theater Prize in the «Beste Bundesländer-Aufführung» category for her Graz production of Die Physiker by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, and in 2024 she was awarded the same Nestroy for Bunbury – The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. In 2022, she adapted Goethe's Faust material at the Volkstheater München with Feeling Faust and then adapted Der Zauberberg by Thomas Mann at the same theater in winter 2024. Her world premiere of Rainald Goetz's Baracke at the Deutsches Theater Berlin was invited to the Mülheimer Theatertage in 2024. Most recently, Claudia Bossard staged Wuthering Heights based on the novel by Emily Brontë at Schauspielhaus Bochum. Graf Öderland by Max Frisch, which she is directing on the Pfauen stage in the 25/26 season, is her first work in Switzerland since Tojo Theater Bern in August 2016.
