
Pınar Karabulut, born in Mönchengladbach in 1987, studied theatre studies, art history and modern German literature at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. During the 2016/2017 season, she managed the Schauspiel Köln's off-site venue at Offenbachplatz together with the Britney curatorial team. From 2020 to 2023, she was part of the artistic direction of the Münchner Kammerspiele.
She has directed at the Theater Basel, Schauspiel Köln, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Volkstheater Wien, Münchner Kammerspiele, Volksbühne Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Opéra national de Lorraine, among others.
Pınar Karabulut showcases strong female characters in her works, powerfully and radically highlighting the female perspective. In the 2020/2021 season, she directed the New York Times-acclaimed queer-feminist theatre series EDWARD II. for the Schauspiel Köln's online platform.
In 2021, she was awarded the North Rhine-Westphalia Young Artists' Prize in the performing arts category. In 2022, the business magazine Capital voted her one of the ‘Top 40 under 40’ in the society category. Her production LIKE LOVERS DO (Memoirs of Medusa) was invited to the 2022 Theatertreffen.
