Ein Film von Stina Werenfels & Samir
PFAUEN
FILM PREMIERE: 25.1.2026
Communist and German Jew, immigrant and director of the Zurich Schauspielhaus: Kurt Hirschfeld's biography, which took him from provincial Germany via Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt to Zurich, from there to Moscow and finally back to the Limmat, is the exemplary story of a committed 20th-century figure. He made the Schauspielhaus the centre of cultural resistance against fascism in Europe. Stina Werenfels' film tells the story of this great theatre visionary – and human being – in conversation with the last surviving witnesses.
A DSCHOINT VENTSCHR film production
The performance is supported by the René and Susanne Braginsky Foundation.
