Claudia Irro, born in Munich, studied costume design at HAW Hamburg. In her work, she places a particular focus on female perspectives, gender-fluid forms of representation, and non-discriminatory visual worlds. She creates identities for the stage that transcend stereotypical attributions, thereby blending historical references with futuristic, timeless aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from fashion, pop culture, and the digital visual landscape, she designs costumes that deliberately defy clear temporal or cultural categorisation.
Claudia Irro works internationally across theatre and opera productions in Germany, Switzerland and Japan. She regularly collaborates with directors including Pınar Karabulut, Alexander Eisenach and Axel Ranisch, including at the Residenztheater München, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatsoper Stuttgart and, now for the first time, at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she will design the costumes for Pınar Karabulut’s production of DIE DREIGROSCHENOPER.
