Anta Recke’s artistic practice crystallizes in performances, films, texts, and situations. A central theme of her work is the underlying conditions that facilitate the encounter between the artwork and the audience. Her productions follow a logic of relational labor, seeking both disillusionment and an expansion of consciousness for everyone involved in the process and the final result.

She studied Scenic Arts in Hildesheim and is currently pursuing a degree in Psychoanalytic Cultural Studies and Cultural Psychology in Berlin; from 2015 to 2017, she served as an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele.

Her productions MITTELREICH (2018) and DIE KRÄNKUNG DER MENSCHHEIT (2020) were both invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. As a co-founder of the German Museum of Black Entertainment and Black Music, among other roles, she maintains a long-standing artistic partnership with Joana Tischkau, as well as with Jeremy Nedd, with whom she developed works such as THE EXSTATIC (2019) and FROM ROCK TO ROCK (2023).

In 2024, she made her series debut in screenwriting and directing with MADE IN GERMANY (ARD Degeto). Recke was a fellow of the Berlin Program for Artistic Research 2024/25. The research-based art practice she initiated during this period is currently being transitioned into a process-based film. She directs at various theaters across Europe, both as part of the artist trio Recke/Lehmann/Froelicher and as a solo artist.
