Aljoscha Begrich

Aljoscha Begrich grew up in rural East Germany before moving to Berlin in 1989. He studied in Berlin, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, focusing on ethics, conceptual art and media history. From 2009 to 2014, he worked as a dramaturge and stage designer at the Schauspiel Hannover. From 2014 to 2019, he held the same roles at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, where he was responsible for the Berliner Herbstsalon, among other projects. Between 2020 and 2022, he worked as a dramaturge and curator at the Ruhrtriennale festival. He is the co-founder and part of the artistic direction of the Festival OSTEN in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Since 2024, he has been co-director of the Berliner Festspiele’s international forum.


Aljoscha Begrich has developed and staged projects with many artists, including Mariano Pensotti, Mapa Teatro, Ersan Mondtag, Marta Gornicka and Lola Arias, in various locations such as New York, Tehran and Santiago de Chile. His interest in unusual forms and everyday problems led him to Rimini Protokoll. He has worked with them continuously since 2010, most recently on ‘Société Anonyme’, ‘All right good night, ‘Remote X’ and ‘Black Box’.
