Sara Valentina Giancane is a set and costume designer for theater, opera, film, and television. She completed her training at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, where she qualified as a graphic designer, before beginning her career as an assistant designer at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Throughout her professional journey, she has collaborated closely with directors such as Pınar Karabulut and Rafael Sanchez. Her work has taken her to various prestigious theaters across Germany and Switzerland, including the Schauspiel Köln, Theater Neumarkt in Zurich, and the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin.
Her artistic achievements have garnered significant critical acclaim. For her stage design of Anna Karenina at Theater Neumarkt, she was nominated as "Set Designer of the Year" by the trade journal Theater heute. Her success extends to the film industry as well; in 2020, she received the award for Best Costume Design at the Pula Croatia Film Festival for the feature film Mare by Andrea Štaka. Furthermore, the film Drii Winter, directed by Michael Koch and featuring Giancane’s production and costume design, was honored with the Swiss Film Award. Most recently, she created the costume design for the production IL GATTOPARDO at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Directed by Pınar Karabulut, this production was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen 2026.
