
Lea Burkhalter, born in 1992 in Bern, studied Fine Arts with a focus on stage design at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg and the Zurich University of the Arts. For the performative installation IM FALL, created in collaboration with Marlene Lockemann, she was awarded the 1st Karl H. Ditze Prize for the best graduation project at HfBK Hamburg.
Since 2015, she has been designing stage and costume sets for spoken theatre, dance, and opera. Her work has been presented at venues including the Hamburg State Opera, Schauspielhaus Graz, Deutsches Schauspielhaus, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Konzert Theater Bern, and Kampnagel. In the 2020 critics’ poll of Theater heute magazine, Lea Burkhalter was recognized in the category “Best Emerging Artist.”
