Clara Freitag

Clara Freitag (born 1997) studied Music Theatre Directing at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin (supported by the Deutschlandstipendium) as well as Musicology and Cultural Studies at Humboldt University of Berlin.

Her work focuses intensely on queer-feminist perspectives on music theatre, the relationship between spoken language and music, stage comedy, and breaking down barriers to and within the theatre.

She is particularly passionate about collective devisings and collaborative theatre projects: Her work in this area includes CRY ME A RIVER. A Siren Revue at Freiraum Berlin and JOSEFINE (very loosely based on Kafka) for the Studio of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. She has also directed Menotti’s The Medium at Opera Rogaland and Ritter’s TUFFI at Oper Wuppertal.

In April 2027, she will devise the music-theatre cabinet of horrors DER ENGEL VON BREMEN at Theater Bremen.
