Irina Schicketanz is a freelance artist, set and costume designer. Since completing her studies in the masterclass for stage and film design in Vienna under Axel Manthey and Klaus Zehelein, her work has taken her to venues including the Residenztheater in Munich, Schauspiel Leipzig, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Theater Basel, Kunstfest Weimar, Münchner Volkstheater, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Staatstheater Hannover and the Nibelungen Festival in Worms. Alongside her theatre work, she is involved in comics and is active in the artists’ collective at the Haus der Kunst in Munich.
She collaborates regularly with the director and writer Nuran David Calis, including on the production DIE RÄUBER at the Volkstheater in Vienna, which was awarded the Nestroy Prize in 2006. She also has a long-standing collaboration with the director Adrian Figueroa, which has taken them to venues including the HAU in Berlin, the Staatsschauspiel Dresden and the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Their joint productions ‘Arbeit und Struktur’ and ‘Draussen vor der Tür’ were invited to the Radikal jung festival in 2024 and 2025. DER SANDMANN is her first production at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
