Marlene Lockemann

Marlene Lockemann was born in Berlin and studied stage design and fine arts at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and completed her Master's degree at the UdK Berlin.

She has developed stage designs for productions at the Berliner Ensemble, the Volkstheater and Residenztheater in Munich, Theater Bremen, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Hamburg State Opera, Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, and Kampnagel in Hamburg. For her stage design for «Katzelmacher» at the Munich Volkstheater in 2016, she was nominated as the best up-and-coming stage designer of the year in the critics' poll of the magazine «Theater heute». Further nominations in this category followed in 2021 for her stage design for «Elektra» at the Berliner Ensemble and in 2022 for her stage design for «Danke, Deutschland!» at Kampnagel in Hamburg. Together with the team led by director Dor Aloni, she was nominated for the Körber Prize for Young Directors for «Danke, Deutschland!» in 2020/2021. For «Mein Lieblingstier heisst Winter» at Schauspiel Frankfurt, Marlene Lockemann was nominated twice in the «Theater heute» critics' poll in 2023 – once as best up-and-coming artist and once for best stage design.

In the 2026/2027 season, she will make her debut as a stage designer at the Schauspielhaus Zürich with MARIA STUART.
