Álvaro Nogales was born in 1997 in Alcalá de Henares. He studied Directing and Dramaturgy at RESAD and is currently pursuing a PhD in Theatre Studies at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, focusing on contemporary Portuguese dramaturgy. As an assistant director, he has worked with renowned directors such as Tónan Quito, Eduardo Vasco, Johanna Schall, José Luis Gómez, José Bornás, Ana Zamora, and Pablo M. Bravo. In addition, he worked as a production assistant with the company Entrecajas. Since 2019, he has been part of the company Mudanzas López, where he has co-authored several plays together with Adrián Perea. He is currently Artistic Coordinator at Teatro Español in Madrid.
With the premieres of «The Constitution» by Mickaël de Oliveira and «The Forget-Me-Nots» by Adrián Perea, Nogales demonstrated his directing work in 2019. Together with Adrián Perea, he has brought to the stage works such as «Ahora que nos dejan hablar» (Corral de Comedias de Alcalá de Henares), «Los chicos de Baker-Miller» (Surge Madrid Festival, Sala Mirador), and «Las juventudes» (10th Playwrights’ Lab of the Fundación SGAE). Finally, commissioned by the 2022 Clásicos en Alcalá Festival, Nogales premiered a version of «Moaning of Maria Parda», by Gil Vicente. Nogales received a grant from the Community of Madrid for the development of his play «Harvey, Why I’m Not Shining?» and participated in renowned support programs for contemporary playwriting, including at Teatro Nacional São João in Porto. Most recently, he was part of the 11th Programme for Contemporary Playwriting of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
Together with Adrián Perea, he presents his first work at Schauspielhaus Zürich with MAGIC KINGDOM.
