Katja Brunner, born in Zurich in 1991, studied dramatic writing at the University of the Arts and applied theatre studies at the University of Giessen. Her theatre texts have won numerous awards, been translated into many languages and performed on stages around the world; her latest work, 'Die Kunst der Wunde' (The Art of Wounds), was nominated for the 2023 Mülheim Drama Prize, which her work 'von den beinen zu kurz' (too short for legs) won in 2013. She collaborates regularly with musicians, with whom she performs in various contexts within the literary landscape. Katja Brunner's first book, ‘geister sind auch nur menschen’ (ghosts are only human too), was awarded the Terra nova Prize by the Schiller Foundation in 2022. She was invited to be writer-in-residence at the German House of New York University in 2025.
With the BRUNNER series, she returns to the Schauspielhaus Zürich in the 2025/26 season and, together with guests from the Swiss literature and music scene, invites audiences to rethink language and literature.
