Kay Matter, who grew up in Zurich and Northern Italy, is an author and theatre maker. They studied Scenic Writing at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2024, he was a fellow of the International Forum at the Berliner Theatertreffen. Their plays (some published under the name Selma Kay Matter) have been translated into several languages and presented internationally. For Grelle Tage, Matter received, among other honors, the Hans Gratzer Prize in 2022 and the Nestroy Theatre Prize in 2023. The play ALIAS ANASTASIUS, created in collaboration with Marie Lucienne Verse and commissioned by the Berliner Ensemble, has become a hit in the repertory. In autumn 2024, Matter’s genre-bending debut novel MUSKELN AUS PLASTIK was published. In 2025, Kay Matter was nominated for the Bachmann Prize.
