Christina Tscharyiski was born in Vienna in 1988 and is an Austrian-Bulgarian theatre director. She studied theatre, film and media studies as well as sociology at the University of Vienna and worked as an assistant director on numerous renowned theatre and opera productions. Since the 2013/14 season, she has directed at the Berliner Ensemble, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Burgtheater, Schauspielhaus Graz, Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Salzburg Festival, among others. Her focus is primarily on texts by contemporary writers. Her artistic work has been particularly influenced by long-standing working relationships with authors such as Stefanie Sargnagel, Ferdinand Schmalz and Gerhild Steinbuch. Her productions have won numerous awards and have been invited to many renowned theatre festivals, including her production of "Hildensaga. Ein Königinnendrama‘ at the Volkstheater Munich, which was awarded the AZ-Stern as ’Production of the Year". Since 2009, she has had a special working relationship with the Rabenhoftheater in Vienna. ‘Spiel des Schwebens’ is already her sixth work at Schauspiel Frankfurt, where she has staged ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream,’ ‘Mascha K. (Tourist Status)’ and ‘Der Raub der Sabinerinnen,’ among others.
