tracy september is a South African musician, performance and sound artist based in Zurich. Drawing on jazz, experimental electronic music and her Xhosa heritage, she has developed a practice that brings together music, ritual, memory and collective storytelling.
In addition to her solo work, she composes music and sound design for film, theatre and dance. Her work has been presented, among others, at the Zürcher Theater Spektakel, the Tanzhaus Zürich, Gessnerallee Zürich, the Theater Dortmund, Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, the South African State Theatre, and the Centre for the Less Good Idea.
Most recently, tracy september appeared in a leading role in the award-winning South African film “Uhlanjululo”, while also composing its score. She is a member of the band Black Pitch and performs as a DJ under the name youngseptember. In addition, she is part of the curatorial team at Les Complices*, an independent art space in Zurich focused on queer perspectives.
With DER ZAUBERER VON OZ, tracy september makes her debut as a composer for a production at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
