Sarah-Maria Hemmerling

Sarah-Maria Hemmerling, born in 1998 near Würzburg and raised in Vorarlberg, studied German language and literature at the University of Vienna. During her studies, she completed internships in directing at the Volkstheater Wien, the Schauspielhaus Wien, and the Schauspielhaus Zürich.

Since the 2022/23 season, she has been a permanent assistant director at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she works with directors such as Nicolas Stemann, Leonie Böhm, Alexander Giesche, Joana Tischkau, Barbara Weber, Jette Steckel, Bastian Kraft, and Sebastian Hartmann.

As part of the try-out for the new PLAY festival for new Swiss theater texts (Stadttheater Bühnen Bern), she developed a staged reading of the play MUTTERTIER by Leo Lorena Wyss together with Lena Schwarz, Judith Hofmann, and Tabita Johannes.

In the 2024/25 season, Sarah-Maria Hemmerling realized her first own production at the Schauspielhaus Zürich with DAS WEISSE DORF by Teresa Dopler.
