Sarah-Maria Hemmerling, born in 1998 near Würzburg and raised in Vorarlberg, studied German language and literature at the University of Vienna. During her studies, she worked as an assistant director at the Volkstheater Wien, Schauspielhaus Wien and Schauspielhaus Zürich.
Since the 2022/23 season, she has been a permanent assistant director at Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she works with directors such as Nicolas Stemann, Leonie Böhm, Alexander Giesche, Joana Tischkau, Stas Zhyrkov, Barbara Weber, Jette Steckel, Bastian Kraft and Sebastian Hartmann.
As part of the new PLAY festival for contemporary Swiss theatre texts (Bühnen Bern), she is staging a staged reading of the theatre text MUTTERTIER by Leo Lorena Wyss.
In the 2024/25 season, Sarah-Maria Hemmerling will realise her first own production at Schauspielhaus Zürich with Das weiße Dorf by Teresa Dopler.
