Simeon Meier

Simeon Meier, born in 1972 in Zurich, first trained as a window display designer at the traditional department store Jelmoli in Zurich. After gaining diverse professional experience in set and scenery construction for film and television, event and exhibition design, as well as scenic architecture in the gastronomy sector, he became a stage design assistant at the Schauspielhaus Zurich under the artistic direction of Christoph Marthaler. In the following years, he studied “Stage Design” at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg under Prof. R. Bauer. Collaborations with directors such as Rafael Sanchez, Barbara Weber, Stefan Bachmann, Heike Götze, Stefan Pucher, Tom Schneider and Dariusch Yazdkhasti led him to work at venues including the Thalia Theater Hamburg, Theater Basel, Theater Neumarkt, Schauspielhaus Zurich, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Theater Freiburg, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, and Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. For his stage design in Nostalgie 2175, directed by Rafael Sanchez, he was awarded the Rolf Mares Prize by the City of Hamburg. His work for Schmutzige Hände was nominated for “Stage Design of the Year” in the critics’ survey by the magazine Theater heute. In addition to his theatre work, Simeon Meier is also active in exhibition design for institutions such as the Swiss National Museum in Zurich and Technorama in Winterthur.
