Extras & Casting

We are always on the lookout for talented performers for our professional stage productions and other projects. These often involve challenging roles with a lot of text, dance or singing. The necessary prior knowledge and other requirements are described in detail in the respective casting adverts.

Extras - also known as extras - are supporting actors without speaking roles.
They usually act together with others in the crowd and make a significant contribution to creating a credible and lively background image. They therefore make an important contribution to the atmosphere and authenticity of each scene.

Be part of the stage – extras wanted!

Do you love the theatre and want to be in the spotlight yourself?
Then seize this opportunity and become an extra at the Schauspielhaus Zürich!

Whether in magnificent costumes, with extraordinary wigs or right in the middle of the action on one of our stages – as an extra, you'll be right there when theatre magic happens. Experience the exciting everyday life behind the scenes, be part of creative rehearsal processes and perform in productions that move audiences.

We are regularly looking for curious, enthusiastic and committed people from all walks of life who would like to participate in selected productions. Whether you already have stage experience or would like to get your first taste of theatre, we look forward to hearing from you!

Interested?
Then send us your application with your CV, photo and (if available) previous acting experience to: sophia.haug@schauspielhaus.ch

MONSTER
by Recke/Lehmann/Froelicher
DIRECTED BY: Anta Helena Recke, Maxi Menja Lehmann, Anna Froelicher
WORLD PREMIERE: 11.04.2026 at PFAUEN
about the play

THIS IS WHAT IT'S ABOUT

In our dreams, we can fly, we can be very big or very small, we can climb walls like a spider or eat a cake forever that isn't actually a cake.

MONSTER is about the relationship between mother and child and about childhood. The time when we get to know the world as it is explained to us by adults. It is also about things that can be scary. Shadows, a group of people who look exactly the same, or when you want to scream and no sound comes out.

Monsters can also be a little scary, but other monsters are cuddly and soft. Some monsters protect us and some lurk under the bed. Sometimes, when we are angry, we become a bit like monsters ourselves, and when we get annoyed with others, we think that maybe they are monsters too for a moment. But actually, it's not so bad to be a monster.

On stage, we create living images.

HOW WE MAKE THEATER TOGETHER WITH YOU

The three directors Anta, Maxi and Anna will run several workshops with you. In the workshops, you will get to know the other children who will be on stage with you. You will find out what you can do on stage. The directors come up with scenes for the children. These are mainly scenes from everyday life and scenes from dreams. You dress up, speak simple texts and move in slow motion like in a dream.

You don't need any acting experience to take part. The most important thing is that you are curious and want to get to know theater together with other children!

WHO WE ARE

We are a team of theater professionals from Germany (Berlin) and Switzerland (Zurich). We include a set designer, a costume designer, a musician, a choreographer and three directors.

We find exciting in theatre: transferring images from films and art to the stage, creating a mystical atmosphere, actors who play themselves a little. We often do plays together with children or adults who are not professional actors. In our plays there is little speaking and a lot of moving. We look forward to seeing you!

WHAT, HOW, WHERE

  • The selection workshop will take place on 19 September 2025 (5–7 p.m.) in Zurich.

  • Rehearsals will take place in the following blocks: 1–4 October 2025 / 9–28 February 2026 / 16 March–11 April 2026

  • The plan is to stage around 15–20 performances by the end of the theatre season, with the option of reviving the production in the 2026/2027 season.

  • Rehearsals will be paid at a flat rate.

  • There will be a fee per performance.

  • Most of the rehearsals for the play will take place outside school hours, e.g. in the evenings, on free afternoons or at weekends. There will be intensive rehearsals during the 2026 sports holidays. We will draw up a detailed rehearsal schedule after the selection workshop. In doing so, we want to take the timetables of all performers into account as far as possible. If school hours are affected, we will discuss this in advance with the school management of the performers
