Marie Rosa Tietjen

Marie Rosa Tietjen, born in Bremerhaven in 1986, is an award-winning actress and director, working across theatre, film and television.

While still a student at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, she appeared at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where she continued to perform in a number of productions in the years that followed. Her work has regularly taken her to leading theatres including Schauspiel Köln, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Volksbühne Berlin, Münchner Kammerspiele, and the Wiener Festwochen. A defining chapter in her career has been her twelve-year collaboration with René Pollesch. Other key collaborators include Julien Gosselin, Susanne Kennedy, Karin Henkel, Stephan Kimmig, and Zino Wey.

In 2013, Tietjen was named Young Actress of the Year by Theater heute. She has also been invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen on two occasions. For her leading role in the ARD two-part drama “Gladbeck” (2017), she was nominated for the Deutscher Schauspielpreis. She gained international recognition in 2023 for her role in Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest”, which received numerous accolades, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, and both the BAFTA and the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

Alongside her acting career, Marie Rosa Tietjen continues to develop her own directing projects at theatres such as the Thalia in Hamburg and the Volksbühne in Berlin. She has also been invited to the festivals Radikal Jung and Britney X. This season, she returns to the Schauspielhaus Zürich as a director with her production ICH ERWARTE DIE ANKUNFT DES TEUFELS.
