Rentals and Events

Welcome your guests in the special atmosphere of the theatre world.

With its five stages, the Schauspielhaus Zürich is one of the most vibrant cultural centres in the city of Zurich. With the historic and traditional Pfauen in the centre and the Schiffbau in the industrial west of the city, opened in 2000, it has two houses full of character, charisma and profile.

The foyers and auditoria of both theatres can be booked for a variety of occasions during off-peak periods. Events can range from corporate functions to conferences, panel discussions, award ceremonies and banquets. We will be happy to advise you and work with you to develop a bespoke concept for your project. On the following page, you will find an overview of what we have to offer, for full details please see our events brochure.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Schiffbau

Since 2000, the Schiffbau has been part of the Schauspielhaus Zürich as a work and production centre.
The landmarked industrial building, where ships were built until the 1980s, now accommodates two venues: the Schiffbau-Halle and the Box. It also features four rehearsal stages as well as the theatre's studios and workshops.

The Schiffbau is an extraordinary venue with industrial charm and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Situated in a prime location in the west of Zurich, it offers an exceptional ambience for events large and small.

Spaces in the Schiffbau

Foyer

The Schiffbau's light-filled foyer features a bar, a variety of seating options and a large cloakroom. The foyer is ideal for receptions, registration or catering if you are holding an event in the Halle or Box. It is also ideal for smaller stand-alone events such as cocktail receptions or flying dinners. However, even when hired, the foyer is never a completely exclusive space. Access to the LaSalle Restaurant, VeniceBar, Moods Jazz Club and the theatre, workshop and rehearsal spaces must be possible at all times.

Schiffbau-Halle

At 850 square metres, the impressive Schiffbau-Halle is the largest room in the Schiffbau and offers design options for a variety of uses and individual decoration concepts. Bespoke grandstand solutions can be planned on request, for example for festive award ceremonies or fashion shows. Unseated and with a concert stage, the Schiffbau-Halle can accommodate up to 1200 people.

Schiffbau-Box

The cubic shape gives the 350 square metre space its name. The architectural structure no longer shows any traces of industrial activity, but appears in uniform grey concrete. This makes the space extremely versatile. The Box can accommodate a grandstand for up to 220 people and is ideal for lectures, panel discussions, film screenings or conferences. It can also be transformed into a smaller dining room, lounge or dazzling backdrop for events for up to 400 people.

Pfauen

The Volkstheater am Pfauen was built in 1892 in Zurich-Hottingen and was used as a vaudeville theatre for the first few years. In 1901 the Pfauen was opened as a theatre by Alfred Reucker, then director of the Opera House, with Goethe's Die Mitschuldigen. It remained a private theatre until 1938. The artistic revaluation by emigrants from the then National Socialist Germany was accompanied by the founding of the Neue Schauspiel AG. This was the beginning of the glorious history of the Schauspielhaus Zürich:

Under the direction of Oskar Wälterlin, some of Bertolt Brecht's most important plays celebrated their world premieres at the Pfauen. After 1945, numerous plays by Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt were premiered here. Important authors and directors, as well as outstanding actors, continue to shape the art created at this theatre today. At an event in the historic Pfauen, you can get a taste of theatre in every corner.

Spaces in the Pfauen

Pfauensaal

Our theatre space is the perfect setting for glamorous events such as panel discussions, readings, award ceremonies, concerts, conferences and lectures. The auditorium impresses with its excellent acoustics and high-quality technical equipment. The Pfauensaal's red upholstered chairs can seat up to 650 guests.

Pfauenfoyer

The foyer of the Pfauen can be hired for receptions or cocktail receptions. Cloakrooms are also available. As the Pfauensaal is very busy, the foyer can only be hired on a limited basis.

Kammer

In the basement of the Pfauen there is another small theatre stage, the Kammer. Depending on the set and stage design, it can accommodate up to 80 people. The Kammer is particularly suitable for exclusive drinks receptions or as a reception area in combination with a performance in the Pfauensaal, but also for exhibitions, readings, panel discussions, workshops or small concerts.
