The existence of the company is at stake with the sudden breaking off of suppliers in Pakistan, and Frau Schmitz seems to be the ideal person to save the company. But is Frau Schmitz really a woman? She garners success on a business trip wearing men’s clothes; on her return to the company, however, things are beginning to get out of joint. Who in fact is Frau Schmitz? What kind of clothing actually suits her? And what kinds of expectations are placed on her as a wife, work colleague, competitor and rival? Lukas Bärfuss has created “Frau Schmitz” specially for Schauspielhaus Zürich’s ensemble. For Barbara Frey, whose collaboration with the playwright began in 2003 staging the play “The Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents” in Basel, it is the fourth Bärfuss premiere production she is directing.
