Yvonne, die Burgunderprinzessin
by Witold Gombrowicz
In Yvonne, Witold Gombrowicz, one of world literature’s great outsiders and provocateurs, created one of theatre’s most mysterious figures. The princess appears at the court of King Ignaz and upsets everyone with her dull, listless temperament. Prince Philipp cannot abide Yvonne from the very first moment, but at the same time he cannot bear having to hate her. “I shan’t succumb to it, I shall love her!” is the challenge he hurls at his own character. Barbara Frey has staged Gombrowicz’s dark, downright hilarious début play as a dance of the vampires featuring a fantastic male ensemble.
