Die Physiker
by Friedrich Dürrenmatt
"People who plan their lives want to achieve specific objectives. When, despite such objectives, they achieve the opposite – that which they are trying to avoid –, happenstance is the worst thing,” wrote Dürrenmatt in “21 Punkte zu den Physikern” (21 Points on the Physicists). That is exactly what the physicist Möbius experiences: having discovered the so-called world formula, he has himself locked up in a sanatorium for the mentally ill. Dürrenmatt’s comedy, which was premièred at the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 1962, can now be seen at the Pfauen under the direction of Herbert Fritsch.
