Retrospective Zuhauspielhaus

Pandemic Theatre March 2020 – June 2021

You can't end without looking back! During the festival week, a multimedia exhibition about the “Zuhauspielhaus” - the digital public sphere of Schauspielhaus Zürich during the coronavirus pandemic - will be installed in the foyer of the Schiffbau. Some of the numerous digital works created during the lockdown years are now being presented again: From Nicolas Stemann's in- and outdoor project Corona-Passionsspiele, spanning months and genres, to Christopher Rüping's participatory online series Dekalog, in which the question of moral action became a shared responsibility of all those watching, to the Douglas Adams-inspired video works Close Encounters and the introspective Tender Talks about closeness in times of distance with personalities such as Laurie Penny, Klaus Theweleit and Annie Sprinkle. This retrospective installation invites us to reflect on how theater can also provide a lively space for encounters and critical reflection online and in what form these formats have changed our perception of theater and community in a time of isolation.
