Karin Pfammatter

Karin Pfammatter, born in Visp, completed her formal training at the Schauspielausbildung am Konservatorium in Bern. Her first theatrical tenure was at Stuttgart, before moving on to Düsseldorf and finally to Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where she remained until 2000, under the artistic direction of Frank Baumbauer. In the period that followed, Pfammatter took the stage at Münchner Kammerspiele, Wiener Burgtheater, the Salzburg Festival and Theater Neumarkt. She was an ensemble member at Schauspielhaus Dusseldorf starting in the 2011/12 season. Her most important roles include the title role in Schiller's Maid of Orleans at Schauspielhaus Hamburg (directed by Matthias Hartmann), Penthesilea in Kleist's play of the same name at Schauspiel Frankfurt (directed by Anselm Weber) and Lady Macbeth at Schaubühne Berlin (directed by Christina Paulhofer). She has also worked with directors such as Dimiter Gotscheff, Stefan Pucher, Jürgen Gosch, Thomas Ostermeier, Christoph Marthaler, Hans Kresnik, Martin Laberenz, Falk Richter, Staffan Valdemar Holm, and Schorsch Kamerun. Karin Pfammatter has been invited to Berlin Theatertreffen several times, works regularly in film and television and is known to a Swiss audience for her work on several Tatort episodes and Swiss television productions.
